Harnessing a Passion for Fashion
Turning a 3-month trial into a 12-year career, meet Lucy, Personal Stylist at John Lewis Partnership.
Lucy Knight - Partner & Personal Stylist, John Lewis Partnership
The John Lewis Partnership is the UK’s largest employee owned business and parent company of John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners, which is owned in Trust by 83,900 Partners.
After finishing university and not knowing what she wanted to do, Lucy Knight’s manager suggested a 3-month trial in personal styling, just to see if she liked it. 12 years later Lucy is now working with a broad range of customers providing a special customer experience to those visiting her at John Lewis & Partners, White City.
Lucy is no stranger to putting customers at ease, getting them settled into their private suite and then taking all the hard-work out of clothes shopping. She works with people who need help creating a new wardrobe, this could be returning to work after having a baby, reshaping a look to fit with a more casual dress-code or helping a mother of the bride to find the perfect outfit. It’s not uncommon for her customers to feel a bit nervous and Lucy uses her empathy skills to set them at ease and ensure they have a great experience.
Having completed her degree, Lucy set about a number of fashion internships but she always kept her hand in with her job at John Lewis & Partners and returned at weekends and holidays. It was only then, that her boss suggested personal styling that Lucy found a career that she really loved. Combining her passion for products and customers, Lucy runs events, works with the national press and has a hand in social media, all through her work with the John Lewis Partnership.
No stranger to change and innovation, Lucy recognises that retail is changing and that customer experience is key. What Lucy does can’t be recreated online, she lives and breathes fashion and customer satisfaction. Lucy’s advice is “to be your own brand”, it certainly seems to have worked for her!
